Dance Classes

2016 Summer Classes

Two Tu’s

Classes are introductory 45 minute classes for toddlers who are 2 years old. As they learn to listen to music and hear the beat, they will improve their rhythm and timing as they learn to clap their hands and use their feet. Students learn basic motor skills as they learn new dance movements. Students learn socialization skills, as well as focusing in a classroom environment through discipline and structure. Students in the Two Tu’s classes must wear ballet shoes to class. There is no recital for the two year old program.

Thrilling Three’s

Classes are introductory courses for preschool students who are 3 years old. Students will work basic motor skills as they learn new dance movements in tap, ballet, creative movement and tumbling. Students learn socialization skills, as well as focusing in a classroom environment through discipline and structure. Students will need ballet shoes, tap shoes and a dance bag. Please label all belongings. Students will perform tap in the recital.

Fabulous Four’s

Classes are for students who are 4 years old. Students will continue to learn movements in tap, ballet and tumble. Students learn socialization skills, as well as focusing in a classroom environment through discipline and structure. Students will need ballet shoes, tap shoes and a dance bag. Please label all belongings. Students will perform tap in the recital.

Fancy Five’s

Classes are 1 hour classes for five year olds focused on tap and ballet. Students will also dabble in hip hop movement. Students will need ballet shoes, tap shoes and a dance bag. Please label all belongings. Students will perform tap in the recital.

Sassy Six’s

Classes are 1 hour classes for six year olds. Students will continue to learn the fundamentals of ballet, tap and hip hop. This class is designed to prepare students for a more serious dance education. Students will need ballet shoes, tap shoes and a dance bag. Please label all belongings. Students will perform tap in the recital.

Ballet

Classes are offered for students ages 7 and up, levels beginner to advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, alignment, barre and center floor work. In addition students will complete across the floor combinations. Students will become familiar with vocabulary and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work and will work on balance, strength and style. All students are encouraged to study ballet since it is the foundation of all other dance styles. Classes are 1 hour in length with advanced classes being 1 ½ hours.

Pointe

Classes are offered to ballet students who have attained the necessary development and dance proficiency to undertake the ultimate training of the female classical dancer. Students can study Pointe only upon approval by a member of our qualified staff.

Tap

Classes are offered for students 7 and up and involve rhythm, dynamics and varying sounds. Classes consist of barre, center, and across the floor exercises. Tap is a fabulous base for rhythm, timing and coordination. Classes are offered from beginner to adult and are all 1 hour in length.

Jazz

Classes are offered for students ages 7 and up. Students will focus on breathing, basic stretches, isolations and walks. The students will advance into combinations utilizing proper technique. The fundamentals of strong jazz technique will be learned through proper body placement and strength, as the fluidity and smoothness of movements and transitions increase. As dancers move on to the more advanced classes, they will learn difficult skills including pirouette turns, leaps, jumps and floor work. Classes are offered from beginner to adult and are 1 hour in length with advanced classes being 1 ½ hours.

Hip Hop

Classes are offered for students 7 and up. 1 hour classes give students the opportunity to learn movements which are based on current trends in the dance industry, most of which can be seen in today’s music videos and TV shows. Students must wear hip hop sneakers or street sneakers which are reserved for use indoors only and not worn to and from class outside.

All Boys Break Dancing

Classes are available for boys ages 5 and up! This 1 hour class gives boys an introduction to hip hop and break dancing. It is strongly based on the proper body placement as well as the strength to execute its many ‘tricks’ and ‘stunts’. Students will get to show off their moves at our recital! Students must wear hip hop sneakers or street sneakers which are reserved for use indoors only and not worn to and from class outside.

Lyrical

Classes are available for students ages 10 and up with 3 full years of ballet and jazz experience. This popular style of dance incorporates both ballet and jazz study. This genre includes a wide range of movement, music and tempo. It is a highly technical dance study that not only uses advanced skills, but also uses expression and emotion to portray images, lyrics and feelings.

Modern

Classes are available for students ages 10 and up with 3 full years of ballet and jazz experience. This 1 hour class will allow students to work on self expression. Modern dance is a more relaxed, free style of dance in which choreographers use emotions and moves to design their own steps.

Broadway

Classes are for students ages 10 and up. Students must currently be enrolled in tap, jazz and ballet. During this 1 hour class, students will learn techniques and routines as seen on Broadway!

Leaps and Turns

Classes are for students 10 and up who are currently enrolled in ballet, tap and jazz. Students must have 3 full years experience before enrolling in this class. Leaps and Turns is designed to improve turning technique and to teach how to jump more effectively.

Acro

Classes are for students ages 7 and up. During this 1 and 1/2 hour class students will learn how to coordinate balance, control, agility, flexibility, and coordination. Acro also uses gymnastics skills to execute intricate movements of the body.

Class Placement

Students are placed in classes according to previous training. To benefit the students’ progress, class placement will be monitored by both the teacher and director, we reserve the right to move students up or down in levels.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to maintain and/or advance in your designated level. Please notify the studio by telephone or email when a student will not attend a session. Make-up classes are available and should be utilized.

We at JRDC feel that for your dancers best interest, we will only have viewing for the first class of every month. This gives dancer’s the opportunity to focus on the teacher and get the most out of their dance education without distractions.
